The last time I stayed in a dormitory type accommodation I was 8 yrs old and my dad had taken us and all his young adult nieces and nephews on a trip on the Garden Route. The resort we stayed in had only the dormitory accommodation left and at the time it was fine because we were all family. Now I prefer my comfort and privacy and choose apartments or hotels close to transport links.

I have much admiration for travelers who can do a $5 lunch or sleep in a tent on the outskirts of town or a hostel with smelly or noisy roommates and sharing bathroom and toilet facilities. I’m too old to deny myself the comforts that I work so hard to afford, so I seldom feel the need to apologize or drop my standards to fit in with what others perceive to be acceptable👌.

I so agree with you, there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of luxury!

Completely agree! When I was young hostels and shared bathrooms were fine. But now I want a bit of privacy and I want to go eat the expensive meal and enjoy myself! Priorities often change with age, nothing wrong with that.
