Just last week, I took a trip to Bratislava – the capital city of Slovakia about which I’ll speak extensively in my next post – and stayed in Radka and Daniel’s “Quiet Stylish Central Apt (directly in the Centre)“.The experience was an overall win (price/quality/location/amenities) and I highly recommend it, since it is an example of what an AirBnB experience should be like!

The hosts

Radka is a sweet, aspiring architect and her boyfriend Daniel is the drummer of the popular Slovak band “PARA”.  Together they make the most thoughtful and attentive hosts one can ask for! They share a passion for interior decorating, which is what makes their apartment so special. Both kind and helpful, they took the time to recommend the city’s hotspots and provided us with a map marked with all the must-see locations as well as a Slovakian number and an iPhone (!) device. There is even an iPad showing video instructions for the house appliances!! How cool is that? In addition, they welcomed us – something that they do with all their guests – with a complimentary bottle of local wine and sweet & salty snacks. Awesome!

The apartment

Situated inside a beautiful building that dates back to the 1910’s, the non-smoking apartment has high ceilings and overlooks the communal garden. Throughout you will find unique and custom-made pieces (i.e. the table that Daniel made out of old computer parts!) and beautiful paintings created by the young and local upcoming artist Dominika Zakova. Daniel & Radka’s vintage flat has modern twists, which shows that they have an eye for detail, and truly complements the city’s spirit.

The spacious apartment can host up to 4 people, 2 in the very comfy bed and 2 in the pull-out sofa, and is super pet friendly! Unfortunately Kiara couldn’t join us… I’m sure though that she would have appreciated it as much as we did.

The location

It is literally a 4 minute-walk from Bratislava’s square, a 10 minute-walk from all the nice restaurants, cafes & bistros and all the major attractions and right next to a local deli where you can find supplies for your stay (open 24 hours!). And while the location is so very central, the apartment is ridiculously quiet – perfect for a good night’s sleep.

So in case you plan a trip to Bratislava any time soon, make sure you book here! You’ll love it, I’m sure, and you’ll also leave your mark forever: a Polaroid photo and a sticker marking the city of your origin on the living room’s map! Now THAT is cool!
